SUMMER 2026 CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

What’s New and Completed?

Structure 1

Structure 1’s south expansion joint was installed in early April.  Expansion joints are a critical component of a bridge and allow the structure to expand and contract in response to temperature changes, traffic loads, and other environmental factors.

Structure 3

Wingwalls are a type of retaining wall that extends out from the sides of a bridge’s support structure (abutment), retaining the soil / fill materials that lead up to the bridge, helping prevent erosion or sliding that could impact stability. Installation of formwork for the West Abutment Wingwall was completed in April.

What’s Ongoing?

Structure 1

In preparation for the next stage of bridge construction, crews are currently placing and compacting soil behind the bridge supports (abutments) on both the north and south sides of the bridge.  This will create a stable and level surface for building the connection between the roadway and bridge, which is known as an approach slab.
