IVOR STRONG BRIDGE

SPRING 2025 CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
Construction is ramping up for the busiest season this project has seen. To date, the project has accumulated 513,707 manhours and is currently employing 211 personnel across various disciplines. As the project advances into subsequent phases, workforce numbers are expected to increase in the coming months to meet construction demands. A total of 1,254.91 linear metres of pipe for storm drainage was installed across the project area this spring.
This area has seen the most significant changes over the past few months with utility relocations, concrete/asphalt removals, storm line drainage installation, and the removal of a sanitary forcemain. Over the winter, all bridge substructure work on the Ivor Strong Bridge, including piling and pier work, was completed.
Other significant milestones in the Ivor Strong Improvement Area included:
Eastern Berm Removal
In late summer of 2024, temporary in-river berms were required to facilitate construction access at the Ivor Strong Bridge. In May 2025, crews worked on the first stage of removal for the eastern berm, now that construction has progressed on the new bridge’s piers.
Girder Delivery
Girder delivery and installation for the new southbound bridge was completed on April 29, 2025, taking 9 non-consecutive nights to complete. A total of 28 girders were installed, and now that girder delivery and installation are complete, crews are focused installing bridge deck formwork.
Upcoming Work
Retaining wall construction west of the Ivor Strong bridge is ongoing.
