What’s Completed?
Structural Work
Work on the Southland Bridge is progressing with the completion of the bridge deck concrete pour.
The constructing of approach slabs and wingwall barriers is underway. Approach slabs create a smooth transition between the roadway and the bridge, helping improve ride quality for motorists, while wingwall barriers help guide traffic and support the embankments at the bridge approaches.
Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) Walls
Construction of MSE retaining walls at Southland Drive is now completed.
What’s Ongoing?
Bridge Deck Activities
The new bridge deck has been paved, and work on this structure is currently focused on installing the expansion joints, which is expected to be completed by the end of October.
Roadworks
Road construction at Southland Drive is focused on expanding roadway capacity and preparing the area for future traffic demands. Current work includes road widening, which involves adding new lanes to improve traffic flow.
Construction is progressing on the subgrade for the new lanes. Once completed and compacted, paving activities will move forward. Topsoil placement, adjacent to the new lanes, is taking place in designated areas to restore disturbed land and prepare the landscape for future landscaping that will be completed to stabilize slopes, reduce erosion, and improve drainage.
