SOUTHLAND DRIVE

SUMMER 2026 CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

What’s Completed?

Girder Installation
The installation of girders for the new bridge at Southland Drive was completed in March. Girders are structural elements which support a bridge’s deck. This bridge has two girders that were delivered in multiple pieces and joined together onsite during installation.

What’s Ongoing?

Widening Preparation
Work to prepare the area at Southland Drive for the upcoming widening of Deerfoot Trail is ongoing.

Slope Stabilization and Retaining Wall Preparation
Steel anchors (called soil nails) are being installed into the slope under the new bridge. These anchors reinforce the slope, helping hold the soil in place and make the area more stable. Once these anchors are installed, crews will apply a layer of sprayed concrete to protect and strengthen the slope. This work will stabilize the slope and prepare it for the installation of the retaining wall.
