SUMMER 2025 CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
What's been completed?
Structure 1
MSE Walls
The construction of 5 MSE walls to support Structure 1 was completed in late August
Abutment Work
Formwork for the wingwalls (walls that retain soil embankments on bridge approaches) and curtain walls (walls designed to help protect against erosion) at Abutments 1 and 2 has been completed. Rebar installation on this structure is also complete.
Bridge Deck Pour
The concrete pour activities on this structure started on August 11, 2025 and the whole bridge deck was finished on September 16, 2025. Approximately 993 cubic metres of concrete was poured on this new structure.
Structure 2
The abutment 1 pedestal concrete pour and seat rebar installation have been completed. Additionally, the delivery and installation of 14 steel box girders started on September 19 and is expected to be completed by late October.
Structure 3
A major milestone was reached with the completion of the southbound deck concrete pour and cure on June 3, 2025. Paving work was completed in late August.
Roadworks
Work continues on intersection widenings, grading and subgrade preparation, as well as utility pipe installation.
Traffic Switch and Bridge Demolition
A major traffic switch was implemented on September 16, which diverted traffic onto the new southbound bridge (structure 3). This allowed for the demolition of the current northbound bridge which was completed on September 22. Work on the construction of a new bridge in this location is now ongoing.
What's Ongoing?
Bridge Deck Work Structure 1
Superstructure work on this bridge continues, including the installation of the interior deck soffit and post-tensioning of the girders to strengthen the structure.
STRUCTURE 3
Mechanically Stabilized Earth Wall panel installation and backfilling is ongoing for this structure.
