IVOR STRONG BRIDGE

SUMMER 2025 CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

What’s been completed

Bridge Superstructure Work

Significant progress was made on the new southbound bridge at Ivor Strong this summer, with the following having been completed:

  • Bridge deck foundation work
  • Rebar capping
  • Formwork and diaphragm rebar installation on the three bridge piers

Retaining Wall Work

Excavation and work to prepare for the construction of retaining wall levelling pads was completed in mid-August. These pads will create a stable base on which the future retaining walls will be constructed.

Concrete Pouring

After the bridge girders were installed in the Spring, bridge deck and handrail work was completed to ready the bridge deck for concrete. Pouring concrete for the bridge deck began in the last week of August and was completed on September 17, 2025. The completion of these important milestones brings the project several steps closer to having the bridge ready for traffic.

What’s Ongoing?

West MSE Wall Construction

The construction of the West Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) Wall began in mid-August and is expected to continue through the fall months. An MSE wall is a type of retaining wall that is built by layering reinforcing materials into soil, creating a structure that is stable, durable, and self-supporting.
